Burgundy DinnerTutored by Charlie BennettHicks Brasserie, Cotswold House Hotel, The Square, Chipping Campden, Glos GL55 6 Thursday November 26th 2009 From 6.00pm Burgundy is possibly the most fascinating and at the same time frustrating of all wine regions. At its best there are no wines in the world that match the complexity, finesse and sheer sensuality of great burgundy. Essentially they are wines to savour with long relaxed meals rather than wines to sip and discuss. As Hugh Johnson memorably said of France “Let Paris be her head, Champagne her soul; Burgundy is her stomach.” Sadly there are still many disappointing wines produced in the area and some of the greatest bottles are now beyond the pockets of all but the super-rich. However, all is not lost! Charlie Bennett has spent many years visiting burgundy and has found small growers, often from less well known appellations, who deliver high quality at prices that won’t break the bank. Menu Canapes 2007 Petit Chablis Domaine Thierry Hamelin *** Persillade of Wild Mushrooms with Walnut Oil 2007 Macon Loche Marcel Couturier *** Beef Bourguignon, crushed root vegetables, roasted new potatoes 2007 Bourgogne Rouge ‘En Bully’ Domaine Rapet 2007 Haut Cotes de Nuits Mongeard- Mugneret *** Prune & Armagnac Tart with Crème Chantilly *** Coffee and chocolates The cost of the dinner including all wines is £39.50 per person. Please book places directly with Cotswold house on 01386 840330 or e-mail reservations@cotswoldhouse.com.

Kumeu River DinnerTutored by Paul Brajkovich & Charlie BennettCotswold House Hotel, The Square, Chipping Campden, Glos GL55 6AN Friday October 30th 2009 Reception - 7.00pm Dinner – 7.30pm Kumeu River winery, sited north-west of Auckland was founded in 1944 by Mick and Katé Brajkovich along with their son Maté. However, it was not until Maté’s son, Michael took charge of the winemaking that the true potential of the vineyards was realised. Their Chardonnays are widely regarded as the finest produced in New Zealand (if not the whole of the New World) and are comparable with top flight white Burgundy. Comments such as ‘gloriously pure Puligny’ from Jancis Robinson MW and ‘New Zealand’s greatest Chardonnay producer’ from Wine Spectator have elevated Kumeu River to superstar status. Their ‘second tier’ Village Chardonnay was described by influential US wine writer Robert Whitley as ‘the world’s finest Chardonnay for the money’. Alongside these world class Chardonnays they also produce outstanding Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. We are delighted that Michael’s younger brother ,Paul will be with us to give the family history behind this great winery. A special four-course menu created by Cotswold’s head chef will be matched to wines across the Kumeu range. Menu Canapes Aperitif - 2008 Sauvignon Blanc & Village Chardonnay 2007 *** Celeriac & parmesan velouté, grand padano jellies 2007 Pinot Gris *** Cotswold house smoked loch duart salmon, horseradish cream 2006 Estate Chardonnay 2006 ‘Mate’s’ Vineyard Chardonnay *** Braised blade of Beef, mushroom pave, wilted spinach, tomato & chive jus 2007 Village Pinot Noir & 2007 Estate Pinot Noir *** Vanilla poached pear, tonka bean ice cream, fortune cookie tuile The cost of the dinner including all wines is £45.00 per person.
